Everyone has their own story and each scar adorning their skin has its own tale to weave across once smooth skin. My story is a long one with twists and turns I could never have imagined. In a span of ten minutes, my life was completely changed. Not that I would realize it at the time; no it took awhile for that. And it all began on a normal day in the city where I'd been abandoned just a year earlier.

I was a seven year old living on the streets, which I guess was kind of harsh but I had adapted quickly. I had a fast mouth and even faster hands. I thought I was pretty invincible until the day I got caught stealing from a small corner store.

The guy caught me sneaking a few apples into my backpack. The tall balding man, grabbed me by the wrist and wrenched my arms upwards, causing me to release one apple that was still in my small hand. He yelled loud, spittle landing on my face as he shook me. When I couldn't take anymore, I twisted around in his hold and bit him hard of the arm. With a loud howl, he released me and I wasted no time pushing open the door to the street and take off running.

The normal hustle and bustle of the city hasn't yet began. People were actually stopping to talk to their friends. There was a brisk chill in the air and everyone pulled their coats closer to their bodies to protect from the winter air. As I breathed in the crisp air, I grinned, letting out a whoop of happiness. I ran down the streets, ducking into alleys before I reached where I was going.

The passage could be easily overlooked being as thin as it was, but I could squeeze through. I may have been able to fit through it but it was a tight fit and I'm sure that I still have scars from where that passage scratched me up. At the end of the passage was a short ladder leading down to a grass covered depression, hidden from the rest of the world. It made a cool base.

I grabbed the wooden rungs of the ladder and began to climb slowly down. A few rungs down, I planted one foot and flipped myself backwards in a way I'm proud to say I can still do. I landed just where I planned; squarely on the stomach of my friend. He jolted awake and pushed at me.

"What the heck, Blake?!" Kyle yelled as he managed to push me to the side. I just grinned. Kyle stood up from his small pile of blankets and brushed off his pants. No one would believe it then and they still won't now but even though Kyle was a head taller then me, he was actually the younger one. Kyle was only six, almost seven, at the time.

"It your turn to go get things," I said holding out his bag. Whenever we needed things we took turns going to all kinds of little stores but we always made sure to go to a different store then the one the other did. There was less chance of getting caught that way. The boy pushed a hand through his blonde bangs before reaching out to grab the bag.

    "What did you get?"

I pulled my bag in front of me and started pulling out things that I'd gotten from the three stores I'd hit, naming the items as I went.

"Apples, oranges, rope so we can finally tie those boards together to protect us from the rain, and this," With a big grin, I pulled out my prize find. It was a purple blanket, not too thick but it was warm. A lot warmer then what we used normally.

"Fine so I have to get matches and meat... Slim Jim's and beef jerky fine?"

"No. I want real meat. Like lunch meat at the least."

"Do you want me to get caught! You will deal with what I can steal from one of the corner stores or you can just eat your apples and oranges!"

"Fine! Just go away so I can sleep!" I didn't get along very well with Kyle, especially when I was tired, and I was almost dead on my feet.

"Fine!" And with that Kyle was gone, leaving me in peace. I crawled over to my own bundle of blankets and pulled the new one over the two I already used to cover up. Sleep didn't wait long to claim me.

I was jolted awake sometime later. It was already dark and at first I couldn't tell what had woken me but when I saw it, I remember I screamed. I had found myself almost eye to eye with a man with flaming red ruby eyes. I flung out my hand in terror and a blue lighting bolt sparked off the tips of my fingers. It caught the man on the side of the head. It knocked the hood he was wearing off his head. I could see his face with gleaming ivory fangs stained crimson and the white horns curling out from his dark hair.

That was the first time I saw one of the creatures that killed my mother and Kyle's parents. It was a demon no doubt. I flung another bolt at him as I tried to scoot away from him. Whether it was from fear or whether the demon was causing it, I couldn't move. I heard a hiss, like a serpent's, and then Kyle was beside me. His fangs were out, gleaming impressively in the moonlight, and the look in his glowing yellow eyes could have killed.

The demon turned tail and ran, disappearing into what looked like thin air. I don't know why he left that night but I sure neither Kyle nor myself actually scared him. We could never have actually hurt him. Kyle barely knew how to use those fangs on someone who wasn't willing and I could barely hurt a fly with my level of power. But still the demon left.

Kyle's fangs retracted and his eyes returned to their normal green. He dripped down next to me and grabbed me by the shoulders none to gently.

    "Are you okay?"

I nodded, unable to produce another response. The fear and panic began to fade and I became more aware of my surroundings. The first thing I registered was an unusual warm weight on my lap. I looked down and was surprised to see what lay there. It was a young boy with dark purple curls. Two cat ears identical in color to his hair sat on opposite sides of his head and a fluffy purple tail curled around his body. The boy was wearing white pajamas that were spotted with black soot in places and the boy's pale skin was also spotted with it.

The boy stirred and blinked up at me from under dark purple eyelashes. My breath caught in my throat. The boy had the prettiest eyes I had ever seen. They were a medium blue flecked with gray and the pupil was ringed with light brown. Memorized by those eyes, I didn't stir when Kyle began trying to talk to the boy. In fact I stayed like that until the boy began to cry.

We managed to get the clingy boy off me after a lot of trouble. He was obviously a cat shapeshifter and they tend to cling onto heat sources or in this case me. With a little more difficulty, we managed to get him to finally talk clear enough for us to understand him. He was part of the Branski clan of shapeshifter and that night demons had attacked them and slaughtered his clan, burning down his house for extra measure. He had made it out because the demon we just attacked had saved him and brought him to us. The poor boy didn't know why and it did peak my curiosity. Why would a demon save one shapeshifter and bring him to a mage and a born vampire who could potentially grow up to kill said demon. Needless to say, we never saw that demon ever again but even now it makes me curious.

I sighed and leaned back before asking," So kid what's your name?"

"Alec," The shifter said lowly as he played with a loose string on his sleeve.

"Alec. That short for Alexander?" Kyle asked as he bit into an apple.

    "No, just Alec."

"Well just Alec," I said smiling,"Welcome to the SuperNatural Club."

That faithful meeting with the six year old boy who would become my best friend was what began the chain of events that became my story and I'm going to tell it.
